How to Guarantee a Successful Summit: In Sight Live 2030, Kathmandu, May 2025

Speaking at the annual In Sight Live conference in Nepal, Sarah Beeching drew on 30 years of experience working in international development to share the key ingredients that are essential for a successful summit. Whilst there are sadly no hard and fast guarantees of success she used examples drawn from high level events she has worked on to illustrate the Four ’P’s: Process, Politics, Policies and People.   Without a clear focus on each the risk of failure is high.

‘The Four Ps are intimately connected.  Understanding how and why they’re linked, and seeking to influence each strand, is like multidimensional game of chess.’ 

Following her speech, the panellists discussed what lessons can be drawn from these experiences and this framework to support partners in the eye health sector as they embark on the process of generating momentum towards the first Global Eye Health Summit in 2026.
